Graham Stuart, the MP for Beverley and Holderness has handed out award certificates to students who have been taking part in a project called the Work Related Learning Scheme.
The Work Related Learning Team, as part of the Education Psychology and Behaviour Support Team at East Riding Council, supports approximately 160 East Riding Key Stage 4 pupils.
The programme is for young people who have had difficulties accessing education in mainstream education. The provision offers alternative, vocational opportunities across the East Riding and Hull.
A major objective of this strategy is retention at Post 16. Last year the retention rate was approximately 80 per cent.
Graham said: “It was a great honour to be asked to award these young people for the work they have done.
“Work Related Learning is very different from more mainstream approaches to education. It is very work focussed and is designed to provide young people with the chance to both get a start in the world of work and help with their learning.”
And he added: “I think it is always important that we try and be as flexible as possible when it comes to meeting the needs of learners.
“This project does just that. It seeks to work both with people who may have been “disengaged” from the normal educational process, and with a number of outside bodies such as colleges, training providers and with organisations in the community and voluntary sector.”
