Beverley and Holderness MP, Graham Stuart, has hit out at the Government after it was forced to come clean about a new council tax revaluation database, following a Freedom of Information request.
It has been revealed that:
- Government inspectors are recording the look of people’s houses, scenic views and nice features in a huge database – the council tax banding of the house will then be calculated based on these features
- 100,000 homes have already been logged for their scenic views
- £13 million has been spent on revaluation since it was supposedly postponed in September 2005
Graham said there was now cast-iron proof that “a council tax revaluation by stealth is under way.” He said, “Council tax inspectors have been caught red-handed paving the way for massive tax rises on middle England after the election, to fill the black hole in Britain’s battered public finances.
“The Conservatives will put an end to these tax raising plans and abolish tax inspectors’ rights of entry into people’s homes.”
