MP for Beverley and Holderness, Graham Stuart, has been granted an adjournment debate in the House of Commons.
The debate, due to be held at 1.30pm on Tuesday, December 1 will see Graham calling for the Government to consider commissioning a study of the potential impacts of off-shore dredging on the Holderness coast.
Graham said: “I have some constituents who are convinced that the rate of erosion along the Holderness coast is made worse by the dredging of gravel from areas out to sea.
“The experts I have spoken to suggest that there is no evidence for this. They also emphasise that each dredging application needs to be looked at on its merits. I hope the Government will agree with me that it is important to ensure that any impacts from dredging are understood and that any public fears are allayed.”
Graham will use the opportunity of the debate to press the case for public funding of the demolition costs when someone loses their home to the sea. He said: “It adds insult to injury when someone has to pay for the demolition of their home as well as losing it. I want to confirm with the Minister that the Government has taken on board our campaign and will support measures to mitigate the final costs.”
if you go along the motor way you can see wire baskets holding back the sides why cant these be used to hold back the erosion as one breaks down it could be replaced with new one i think they are called cambons
