MP praises pupils across Beverley and Holderness as schools come in the top third nationally and promises to fight the funding gap

MP for Beverley and Holderness, Graham Stuart, today paid tribute to the hard work of pupils and teachers across the constituency as schools again achieved highly in Key Stage Two tests.

But he said the results had been achieved ‘in spite of’ the area getting less to spend on each child’s education than nearly everywhere else in England.

While overall the East Riding slipped slightly in the national standings from 28th to 42nd the authority is still rated as one of the best in the country.

Graham said: “I am very proud of all the pupils and teachers who are still getting excellent results despite the amount spent on each child being one of the lowest in the country.

“The East Riding is still the seventh worst funded education authority in England so schools are getting these results despite a lack of resources. While that is worthy of praise it should not be the case.”

He said he would be fighting to close the funding gap adding: “I will fight to close this gap and bring education funding for schools across the East Riding in line with national averages.”
