Graham Stuart, MP for Beverley and Holderness has welcomed news East Riding Council has awarded a contract for the new Community Legal Advice Network to the East Yorkshire Citizens’ Advice Bureau.

The Network is a joint funding initiative between the Legal Services Commission (LSC) and the Council. It will bring together social welfare legal advice services funded by the LSC and the Council to create a more coordinated and cost effective service.

Graham said: “I am delighted the CAB has won this tender. It means an organisation which has a wealth of experience in this field will be doing the work.”

The new service will provide help for those people in greatest need and tackle the common causes of local problems.

The service has been designed around the needs of local people and will provide access to a range of legal and advice services – from general advice to specialist representation – for a broad range of legal advice categories including housing, debt and welfare benefits.

The Network will also provide a substantial increase in funding and provision of advice services in the East Riding.

The new service is scheduled to open on March 1, 2010 and will provide services through three permanent locations including one in Beverley. Services will also be available through an extensive outreach network throughout the East Riding, a dedicated telephony service and via the Council’s CitizenLink video conferencing system.
