Calls to to improve safety on the A1079 have been backed by Beverley and Holderness MP Graham Stuart. In the past month four people have lost their lives on the road, which links Beverley with York.
Graham said: “Campaigners are calling on the Government to look with urgency at improving some sections of the A1079. That work could well have a major impact on the number of people killed or seriously injured in accidents and so I fully support that call.”
Grahame Hicks, chairman of the Action Access A1079 campaign group, told the Hull Daily Mail lives were being lost because no improvements have been made.
He was quoted in the newspaper as saying: “The Government says this road isn’t a priority, but how many more lives have to be lost before it becomes one?
“Very little has been done to improve the road except installing a few speed cameras.
“It makes me furious to think people are still dying and nothing is being done. “I feel terribly sorry for the families of those who have been killed, particularly as these accidents happened so close to Christmas.”
Those killed on the A1079 in the last four weeks are: Liam Normington, 22, and Rebecca Robinson, 20, both of Hull, died after a crash on the A1079 east of Arras Hill, near Market Weighton, on Sunday, December 20. The previous week, pensioner Nona Clark, of Newton Upon Derwent, died when she crashed with a Mercedes Atego lorry at Wilberfoss. On November 25, an 83-year-old woman from Barmby Moor died after being hit as she tried to cross the A1079 in the village.

Hello there i am a close friend of Rebecca Robinson, who was recently killed in a fatal car accident on the A1079. I have seen your campaign on this website regarding this road and as you can imagine i am very traumatised and angry as well as the rest of the family. Surely someone must be responsible for this.
But where do we go from here , this is the reason i write i want to know where to go from here and trust with your knowledge you might be able to help .
Look forward to hearing from you Kerry Kehoe
