Beverley Minster to host political hustings

Beverley MinsterThe iconic Beverley Minster is to be the setting for a political debate ahead of the General Election.

Three political candidates will take to the stage to answer questions on their party policies at the hustings event due to take place on Monday April 26.

The candidates will include Graham Stuart, the current MP for Beverley and Holderness. He will be joined by the Green Party and Labour Party candidates for the evening event.

Graham said: “Just like my street surgeries, hustings allow people to talk directly to me and other candidates without the filter of the media getting in the way. I think more direct contact can help build people’s confidence in politics and politicians and make sure that we know what people are thinking.”

And he added: “The hustings are an opportunity to talk about the damage that Gordon Brown’s Labour has done to the country but also to look forward to a brighter future. The East Riding can be a better place to live under David Cameron and I relish the chance to explain how the Conservatives can bring the change this country so desperately needs.”

The Minster hustings will run between 7.30pm and 9.30pm and will be chaired by the Rev Jeremy Fletcher.

Members of the public who would like to have questions to the candidates read out should send them to churchesbeverleyhustings@hotmail.com .
