Graham Stuart, MP for Beverley and Holderness, was today elected as the chairman of the Children, Schools and Families Select Committee at Westminster.
Access to good quality education for pupils in the Beverley and Holderness constituency has always been a priority for Graham. He will still be fighting to get more cash allocated to fund school pupils in the East Riding as well as pushing the government for money to be spent refurbishing or rebuilding schools such as Withernsea High and pressing for the East Riding College to be helped in moving its campus to the Flemingate site.
The Children, Schools and Families Select Committee is expected to be renamed the Education Select Committee in the near future.
Congratulations on your appointment Graham. I hope we can have a constructive debate of a fairer funding formula for schools. It is a disgrace that East Riding Schools receive £337 per head less than schools in Hull. We need an accurate measure of deprivation for the pupil premium not unreliable and inaccurate indicators such free school meals which many rural families simply do not claim.
Congratulations Graham! A well-earned position, especially after your hard work on behalf of home educators over the last 18 months.
Congratulations Graham. Aat last someone level headed
with insight and integrity who can bring a long awaited
sense of balance and perspective to this department.
Hopefully the era of decidedly dodgy doctrine and dogma
based on a presumed superiority to parents and an atmosphere of suspicion and self righteousness is comming to a close.
An ideology of control, tick boxes, the reaching of targets, the proving of outcomes and the ‘you need us’ mentality all of which disempowered parents and children as well as those working on the front line. Instead favoring the egos and careers of those in positions of power who needed to control, label and shoehorn children, families and education into their idealised mould no matter what the damage caused in persuit of
these ideals.
Heres to Graham, may a new start of clarity, care and common sense prevail.
Many congratulations. We are delighted that you are going to be chair of this committee. I know you really care about this area and have the interests of children close to your heart. You have certainly made a big difference to my children’s happiness.
From a home educating family.
Dear Moderator
Looking back over my comment i am not sure if it is appropriate for the context of this site . I do wish to
congratulate Graham ,and i do have hope for a more
measured and sensible approach in this department than that of the previous administration .
I am biased in my attitude towards the last administration ,but also know that good things where achieved there. I believe that most people started out with good intentions but some of these were mistaken or became self serving and distorted along the way and that they also were able to be exploited by those for their own agenda.
I did not want my comment to become a rant , which looking at it again in the cold light of day it is somewhat that but I do hold with what I said .
congratulations, a position well-earned … :0)
