Local MP invites community to attend workshop to help better understand how Parliament works

Graham Stuart, MP for Beverley and Holderness, has invited interested voluntary and community groups to attend a workshop focused on how they can engage in the legislation being considered by Parliament.

The event is organised by the Houses of Parliament’s Outreach Service, a non-partisan initiative designed to raise awareness of the role of Parliament, and the Yorkshire and Humber Rural Network.

The workshop will be held at Bishop Burton College, York Road, Beverley HU17 8QG on Tuesday, 3 July 2012 from 18:00-20:30 in Seminar Room 1.

Graham said, “Law making is more straight forward and more human than people might think. If you know how the system works then you stand a much better chance of influencing it and getting better, fairer laws. I hope anyone with an interest in how the country is run will come along to learn about how they can get their voice heard in shaping the legal landscape. We all have to live with the law of the land – I’m sure it would be better if more of us were also able to influence it too. I hope lots of people may be able to attend so that East Yorkshire has more and more active citizens reminding people like me who it is that sends them to Parliament.”
