Graham Stuart MP visits new East Riding Community Hospital

Graham Stuart, the MP for Beverley and Holderness, has toured the new East Riding Community Hospital in Beverley, which will be open to patients from the end of July.

NHS Trust Chairman Karen Knapton welcomed Graham to the Swinemoor Lane site, where he was able to see the state of the art facilities which include thirty beds providing intermediate care, rehabilitation and palliative care. Outpatient consultations, a Minor Injuries Unit and Diagnostics including digital x-ray, ultrasound and MRI scanning will also be available.

The wards and clinical areas are based on a central ‘street’ layout which makes use of natural light and ventilation to provide a pleasant, therapeutic environment for patient care.

Graham said “When I was first elected the Labour government planned to shut every NHS bed in my constituency. We fought locally, and I set up Community Hospitals Acting Nationally Together (CHANT), a campaign group which forced them to change their minds.

“I’ve been very impressed by the new hospital, which is here thanks to tireless work by local campaigners. I’m looking forward to it opening very soon and providing first class care, close to people’s homes.”
