UK aerospace company BAE Systems has won a £2.5bn aircraft contract with the Sultanate of Oman to supply twelve Typhoon fighter jets and eight Hawk Advanced Jet Trainer aircraft.

Graham said, “This is great news for the BAE Systems site at Brough where components for the Hawk Advance Jet Trainer are made.  The contract adds an additional ten months on to the manufacturing programme at the site and will safeguard jobs until 2016.

“Securing this contract is testament to Britain’s world-leading aerospace industry and the deal will safeguard thousands of jobs across the UK, not just at the BAE Systems factories, but at many more small businesses up and down the country that play a vital role in delivering these aircraft.”

BAE said in statement: “This contract is further recognition that both Typhoon and Hawk are leading aircraft in their class.”
