Graham Stuart congratulates Bishop Burton College on national BTEC award
On Thursday 6 July, Graham Stuart, Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, met teachers and pupils from Bishop Burton College to congratulate them on being named Outstanding BTEC College of the Year 2017 at a national awards ceremony.
The college, renowned for its excellence in agricultural and equine courses, beat more than 1000 other entrants to claim the prestigious top prize.
Bishop Burton College has been acknowledged as one of the UK’s leading land-based colleges with over 4,000 students, of which 97% of Further Education and 96% of Higher Education students progress to positive destinations such as employment or further study.
The National BTEC Awards is an annual opportunity for colleges, students and teachers to be rewarded for their achievements in skills-based learning. Competing institutions are put through a rigorous process, judged by a panel consisting of small businesses, media representatives and members of the CBI – the UK’s premier business organisation.
Graham said: ‘I would like to commend Bishop Burton College for winning the award for Outstanding BTEC College of the Year, and I encourage more institutions to promote higher skills and achieve such success. This college has worked hard to develop pupils’ skills and set them up for their future careers.
‘It is fantastic that our local schools and colleges are getting the recognition they deserve – well done Bishop Burton College.’
