Graham Stuart MP encourages constituents to take part in Parliament Week
Beverley and Holderness MP Graham Stuart is encouraging everyone in his constituency to take part in this year’s ‘Parliament Week’. The week commencing 12th November is to promote the UK’s democracy and engage people from all backgrounds and walks of life to exercise their voting rights. This year’s Parliament Week marks the centenary of women’s suffrage with its ‘Vote 100’ programme which celebrates equal voting and other milestones in British democracy.
Graham Stuart MP commented: “I want everyone to be a part of our democracy, voting is not just a right but an obligation and civic duty. As someone who has had the opportunity to stand for election, be elected and represent our community in Westminster I have seen first-hand the good work a person can do in elected office.
“Now in its eighth year, Parliament Week is a great opportunity to raise the profile of the rights we enjoy as citizens of the UK and encourage more people to take part and stand for election.
“I want to encourage everyone in Beverley and Holderness to get involved with Parliament Week and help promote our democracy wherever possible over the next weeks and beyond.
“This year’s Parliament Week is more important than ever as we mark 100 years of women having the right to vote. It is right that we commemorate the work done by those brave women who fought and sacrificed so much so that women could have the right to enter the ballot booth.
