Thank you for taking the time to contact me about the recent publication of Sue Gray’s report into alleged gatherings at Downing Street.
As you may have seen, it's my firm belief that we should support the Prime Minister to deliver on the priorities of the British public - building on the relatively strong position our world-beating vaccine rollout has put us in so we can put more money in people's pockets and spread opportunity across the country.
I've heard directly from my constituents about the sacrifices they've made throughout the pandemic to protect others. I share their disappointment, hurt and anger. Of course people are angry about alleged parties taking place in Downing Street when they shouldn't have been; it showed an incredible lack of empathy from those involved at a time of national sacrifice.
Whether the law has been broken is a matter for the ongoing police investigation, but ahead of that, the Prime Minister has accepted Sue Gray's report in full and moved to address the structural failings her report found.
Addressing these issues as quickly as possible, which is being done, is crucial to allowing the Prime Minister to refocus on his job - not managing his staff in Downing Street, but managing the country on both the domestic and international stage.
Thank you for taking the time to contact me. As always, please let me know if I can ever be of assistance.
