Graham Stuart MP has welcomed the decision by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) to restore full lifeguard coverage of Withernsea Beach until the end of the season on Sunday 4th September.

This change comes after Graham’s request last week for East Riding Council and the RNLI to reconsider their previous decision to withdraw the weekday coverage at the height of the Summer holiday season, which he spoke about on BBC Radio Humberside and wrote about in the Holderness Gazette.

Graham said: “I am delighted that the RNLI have announced they will be restoring full lifeguard coverage of Withernsea. This will ensure that everyone in our great town and our many visitors will be able to enjoy the wonderful Withernsea beach during the Summer knowing that the excellent lifeguard service by the RNLI will be in place 7 days a week.”

Withernsea Town Council Clerk, Jayne Moxon, said: “I am very grateful to the RNLI & East Riding of Yorkshire Council for re-considering the situation here in Withernsea. We now have the peace of mind to know that our beach has its lifeguard cover re-instated and our beach-goers are safe.”

Councillor Lyn Healing, who represents South East Holderness, commented: “I am extremely happy that the RLNI have decided to rescind their initial proposal to cut lifeguard coverage in Withernsea. We have a wonderful busy beach and our residents and holiday makers can feel safe in the knowledge our beach will be patrolled by highly skilled lifeguards 7 days a week. We were also awarded the Blue Flag this year for the quality of the water, safe and clean a great combination to have. I would also like to thank Graham Stuart MP, Withernsea Town Council and many of our residents for their support in overturning the initial decision, they all worked in collaboration together.”
