Graham Stuart, Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, has welcomed the positive news that East Riding of Yorkshire is receiving £501,033 to tackle rough sleeping through the Government’s Homelessness Prevention Grant.

This grant is part of a £654 million funding package from the Government which will be given to councils across the country to provide vital support to those who need it the most. It will be used to provide temporary accommodation for families, help individuals at risk of becoming homeless pay deposits for new homes and mediate with landlords to avoid evictions.

Since the implementation of the Homeless Reduction Act in 2018, over 500,000 households have had their homelessness prevented or relieved and this funding will help more families have a roof over their heads.

Kerri Harold, ward councillor for Minster and Woodmansey, commented: “I wholeheartedly welcome the Government's investment into tackling homelessness. I am proud of the work already undertaken by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council in this area and with this additional funding I can see the extra work, help and support we will be able to offer some of our most vulnerable residents so they can secure the accommodation and support they deserve.”

Following this announcement, Graham said: “Everyone has a right to a roof over their head and I am pleased the Government is giving East Riding of Yorkshire Council the funding it needs to ensure people in Beverley and Holderness at risk of becoming homeless receive the support they need.”
